Our first overland border crossing from Peru to Bolivia was uneventful but chaotic. Arrived in La Paz which is a fascinating city bowl shaped surrounded by mountains. Literally, the city is spilling over the edges. Interesting sites that were seen during our brief stay in the city was the dried llama fetuses for sale (some with fur others without, just the dried skin and bones - our guidebook mentioned the ritual of burying the fetus under a newly built house as an offering to Pachamama for good luck), other mummified animals seen were toads and a baby alligator, overall the streets are lined with vendors selling absolutely everything from tourist goods, to shoe laces, lamps, fresh veggies, and clothing.
The other interesting note about La Paz is the at first unnerving way the shoe shine people wear face masks (kind of like those seen when people are about to commit some felony). Shoe shiners have been in every major city so far, but this was our first experience with them attempting to hide their identity as the masks really arenīt meant to be malicious.
