Another View of the Blue City in Jodphur

Initially the indigo painted houses symbolized the priestly Brahmin caste of its inhabitants. Year round sunny weather soon inspired other house inhabitants to catch on to the craze for the color’s cooling effect and supposed mosquito repellent properties inherent within the pigment. The effect is beautiful.

The city is also able to boast the best audio guide tour that we have discovered on our world travels. This tour took us through the carefully maintained fort of Mehrangarh, stationed above the Blue city. The trust that runs the fort is professional and does a great job of making history come to life, which makes reading additional information about the fort easily enjoyable – would recommend checking out the following site for more details click here.

We also made a brief stop at the memorial to Maharaja Jeswant Singh II called Jaswant Thada for some pictures.
